How It Works was made for an assignment from my book illustration class. As per the assignment brief, we were to create a full-page illustration explaining a scientific concept for readers aged 5-8; I chose the musculoskeletal system as my topic. When working on this image, I not only had to consider how to fit all the elements on the page while being mindful of design restrictions like the gutter and bleed, but also how to make the subject matter engaging for young readers. In the end, I decided to go for a colourful doctor’s office setting, including some interactive flaps for extra fun.
